Our Story

The history of Saint-Georges goes back to the Gallo-Roman era (4th century) when a splendid villa overlooked the vineyard of the famous Latin poet Ausone. The estate and parish of Saint-Georges were already established in the Middle Ages. In 1602, the Château Saint-Georges was sold by Henri IV to Jean Barbot, lawyer at the Bordeaux Parliament, who bought it for the sum of 1500 pounds with the privilege of the title of baron. In 1772, it was renovated by the architect Victor Louis, commissioned by the last Baron of Saint-Georges, Sieur de Bouchereau. Château Saint-Georges is a wine estate entirely replanted by Mr. Pétrus Desbois after the phylloxera crisis. Mr. Jean-Philippe Janoueix joined the Desbois family in 2013 and has since become the main owner.
