Fattoria della Aiola is situated 14 km from Siena on a beautiful panoramic road leading from Vagliagli to Radda in Chianti. The Villa/Castle of Aiola is over 800 years old and had played an important role in defending Siena lands against the Medici army in the XVI century Italian wars. Transformed into a residence in the 17th century, the Villa still bears evidence of the original medieval castle.
In 1934, Aiola was bought by Senator Giovanni Malagodi, a famous Italian politician and winemaker with a strong belief in Chianti Classico: already in 1947 Fattoria della Aiola became one of the first members of the Chianti Classico Consortium.
Over time, Fattoria della Aiola wines have gained recognition in Italy and abroad: today we export our wines (Chianti Classico as well as red, white, and rosé wines – still and sparkling) to over 20 countries.
In 2015 the wine production was fully modernized, and the ageing cellar renovated completely. The company is planning further growth and invests in planting new vineyards. We adhere to the principles of sustainable agriculture and are in the process of converting to fully organic production. New vineyards are planted using higher quality Sangiovese clones, more resilient to climate change, while valuable older vines are restored, ensuring continuity and gradual expansion of production. Fattoria della Aiola carries on the tradition of growing native Tuscan varieties, with the Sangiovese as the dominant grape type, as well as selected international grapes that are a good fit to our terroir.
Aiola wines are created by one of the most renowned and professional oenologists in the Chianti Classico territory — Paolo Salvi. Under his guidance and thanks to the dedication of the company team, Chianti Classico and IGT wines from Fattoria della Aiola consistently gain awards from prestigious competitions and critics: Decanter, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, Wine Enthusiast, James Suckling etc.
Our range of Chianti Classico wines include Chianti Classico DOCG – elegant, fresh, and friendly, with notes of black cherry and blueberry, this wine spends 12 months in stainless steel tanks and large oak barrels. Aiola Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG offers the best pairing with meat dishes: it is a wine with structure and character, where notes of dark fruits and tangerine peel are followed by spices. Riserva is aged for 24 months in large and small oak barrels.
Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG “Cancello Rosso” is made from grapes coming from a single vineyard called “Cancello Rosso” – the Red Gate. It is a great wine, where fruits (raspberry, mulberry, very dark cherry) are perfectly blended with savoury notes. Top wine of the estate, “Cancello Rosso” is an excellent companion to a variety of foods, particularly steaks.
Fattoria della Aiola welcomes visitors throughout the year – you can taste different wines and visit the vineyards and the ageing cellar, and enjoy the unique Tuscan landscape sipping wine on our beautiful terrace!
