Iacovella farm: a 150-year history
Among secular olive trees and the desire to produce only excellent oils.
That of the Iacovella Davide farm is a story that has its roots far back in time. To retrace it, it is necessary to make a time leap of 150 years, when work in the countryside was more effort than income and technological innovation was only a distant mirage. Yet, no one has ever done a single day’s work without a smile. That smile still accompanies the days in the company today and is the clear demonstration of the satisfaction offered by one’s land, from those 32 hectares of olive groves to which are added 6 hectares of vineyards. Among these, even imposing secular olive trees, over 300 years old, all lying on the hills of the Alento valley, of Bucchianico, and on the slopes of Chieti.
Each stage of production is personally supervised, from pruning to harvesting. Today, between the desire to look to the future and the awareness of having a treasure in our hands, we are aware of the challenges that await us, but we have passion to spare. Our philosophy is well summed up on the occasion of an award won recently: “I don’t want to take all the credit: they have a very large slice, my beloved olive trees. They were just wrapped in a dusty blanket. I took it off and they started to shine again.” The recovery of abandoned olive groves is not a matter of oil production. It is following up on a century-old story that has so much to tell”.
