Our Story

Set in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, surrounded by woodlands, vineyards, olive groves and mountain streams, with spectacular views and untouched landscapes, Le Pianore Villa and Organic Wine Farm is a protected area and a nature refuge recognized by the National Parks Committee. The farm is located in Monticello Amiata, a small village perched on the foothills of the dormant volcano and sacred mountain of Monte Amiata, regarded as Mount Olympus by the ancient Etruscan people.

Le Pianore farmhouse, owned and managed by the Micillo family since 1990, is born out of Elena and Francesco’s collective dream, and today is run by their children Enrica, Laura, and Filippo. The latter, Filippo, guides the cultivation of the vines and the winemaking process. Enrica and Laura focus their efforts on the areas dedicated to tourism and products, such as incredible herbal teas, essential oils of lavender and Saint John’s Wort as well as many aromatic balms. These days, Elena primarily dedicates herself to the vegetable garden, while the family and guests of the estate enjoy the freshest vegetables, made into preserves for the winter.

About 30 hectares of the estate are made up of woods rich in centuries-old oak trees and wildlife. The remaining land is used to produce olive oil, wine, fodder and vegetables.

Le Pianore is also a certified organic farm where all stages of production, from the field to the final product, are characterized by the utmost respect for nature and the fruits it gives. In the company and in the cellar, 90% of the energy used comes from renewable biomass and photovoltaic sources. In the field, only vegetable organic substances are used through the practice of green manuring and the use of bio-dynamic methods. In the vineyard the possible presence of harmful insects is fought by launching native antagonistic insects.

The caps used, zero carbon footprint impact, are completely recyclable and made from renewable plant-based bio-polymers extracted from sugar cane. The labels are printed on rCrush Grape FSC® paper; to produce them, grape residues resulting from pressing are combined with water and natural fibers to create a unique ecological paper.

With complete self-sufficiency of energy and food, the new green architecture projects, the bio-lake and the incredible paths through the woods and along the streams, Le Pianore’s vision is to be an eco-village for future generations that will find a heavenly corner of the world where life is lived in complete harmony with nature.
