Lis Fadis is a “young winery”, on the hill of Spessa di Cividale del Friuli (Unesco heritage).
The location was discovered by the owners in 2005 and they fell in love with this old villa on the top of the hill, surrounded by woods. A perfect place, a little bit magic. This is the meaning of the name “LIS FADIS” that in friulano dialect means “THE FAIRIES”
What does it mean SBILF (the name of our friulano): In Friuli the “Sbilfs” are elves and so, in a magic place, even the wines have something magic: all our wines have an elf name. But this is not all: every elf has a personality, a temperament and we tried to match this with the wine.
The house (restructured) and the winery (new building) were finished in 2009. We started to sell our wines in the 2010.
We grow three white grapes (tocai, chardonnay and sauvignon) and 3 red grapes (refosco dal peduncolo rosso, schioppettino and merlot). We have a new and young vineyard in Cialla area where we have decided to grow Schioppettino, Merlot, and Pinot Noir.
Our agronomist has selected for us old bio-types and clones for each variety. The oenologist, aware of the importance of the genetic and aromatic quality of our grapes, perfectly interpreted the owners’ wishes: produce the “old tocai” as done in the past, produce white wines and red wines for ageing, using concrete tank in the cellar instead of stain steel vats for the white wines and wood barrels for the reds.
Our aim is to produce wines with a strong personality, “unforgettable” on the nose and on the palate.
