The Scheiblhofer winery is located in Andau, in the district of Neusiedl am See, and with its 104 hectares of vineyards is one of the largest wineries in Burgenland, gaining international recognition and popularity primarily through fine red wines such as “Big John” and “The Legends”.
The sustainability-certified winery was built up by Johann Scheiblhofer and taken over by his son Erich Scheiblhofer in 2000. It employs around 115 people and bottles around 1.5 million bottles per year. In addition to high-quality wine products, the family business is characterised by modernity, innovation, social competence and a sustainable way of working.
The winegrower Scheiblhofer built a unique wine wellness resort in Andau, Burgenland, which promises a variety of synergy effects with existing businesses and a clear added value for the region.
Scheiblhofer – The Resort 4*S Hotel
As a winemaker, Scheiblhofer has long been successful and well-known far beyond the borders of the country and has expanded its portfolio and built a wine wellness resort near the Andau winery.
By May 2022, the wine wellness resort in the inconspicuous Andau will have 118 rooms, an exclusive spa area with 4,000 m² and the hotel’s own restaurant. Converted into manpower, this results in around 140 newly created jobs.
The resort will welcome wine lovers as well as families with an attractive offer. This includes wellness, culinary delights, children’s programmes, etc. directly on the hotel grounds and numerous wineries, the Andau bathing lake and other regional excursion destinations in the immediate vicinity. Companies are also offered a suitable setting for seminars, incentives and various other events with a perfect infrastructure.
Architecture, Design & Sustainability
With Arkan Zeytinoglu, a renowned architect could be won for the planning and design concept. In addition to numerous international references such as “The Guest House”, “25 hours Hotel” and the “Hotel Motto” in Vienna, the “Dachsteinkönig” in Gosau and the “Tauern Spa” in Kaprun as well as other projects e.g. in Andalusia, Croatia or New York etc., the hotel specialist also convinced with sustainable architectural concepts, responsible design and resource-saving construction. Because like the winery, the wine wellness resort should also be in line with
Scheiblhofer’s idea of sustainability: Sustainable construction, energy supply and working methods, conscious garden design including its own fruit, vegetable and herb cultivation for the kitchen, a wine and nature trail on the nearby Andreasberg as well as a walk-in vineyard directly by the hotel create proximity to nature and the environment and seamlessly integrate the resort into its surroundings.
That it will be an important project for the region was already clear at the beginning of the planning. The site, which covers more than eight hectares, originally extended over 14 plots of land belonging to nine different owners. Convincing all of them of the plan to realise a project of such magnitude in Andau was one of the first major challenges:
“So far we have been able to convince everyone and get them on board because we want to achieve something great for the entire region. We don’t see our wine wellness resort as a single hotel, but as a project full of possibilities, opportunities and synergies,” says Erich Scheiblhofer about the family’s heart project.
For the region, which currently still largely lacks overnight accommodation, the project means a strong upgrade and numerous synergy effects with the existing wine and gastronomy businesses and the Andau bathing lake.
The Quarter
After the great success of previous years as a pop-up, the Burgenland-based company Scheiblhofer opened the Heurigen “The Quarter” in a new style in the middle of Andau. In addition to culinary highlights, classic Heurigen dishes are offered, which score particularly well with their regionality.
