Piedmont – Full Bodied Wines, Fruity, Balanced and Delicious
Piedmont is my favourite wine region
Piedmont, a region nestled in the northwestern corner of Italy, is a wine lover’s paradise. Although mostly recognized for producing the famous Nebbiolo-based Barolo and Barbaresco wines, Piedmont has much more to offer than its iconic grape.
When people think of Piedmont, Italy, they often associate it with the famous Barolo (known as the “king of wines”) and Barbaresco both made from the Nebbiolo grape.
However, this breathtaking region has much more to offer beyond just Nebbiolo. The area boasts other notable grapes such as Barbera, Dolcetto, and Moscato Bianco, each producing unique flavors and aromas.
It is essential to note that the quality of wine is highly dependent on the terroir and production area. Piedmont’s unique terrain consisting of 30.3% hills, 26.4% plains and 43.3% mountains is one of the key factors contributing to its exceptional wines.
The diverse landscape of Piedmont allows for a broad range of climate and soil conditions that benefit various grape varietals.
By exploring beyond Nebbiolo, wine enthusiasts can discover an array of high-quality wines that reflect the best of Piedmont’s terroir.

I have a special affinity for sweet wines, regardless of whether they are red or white, and I’m fortunate enough to live in a region where both are produced in abundance. I can’t get enough of their delectable taste and find them to be the perfect complement to many meals.
That being said, my second choice would have to go to fruity wines, particularly reds with high acidity and low tannins. A particular standout for me is the “Barbera” variety – its crisp, refreshing taste and bold fruity notes make it an excellent option for any occasion.

It was interesting to see how those wineries, even though they produce the same kind of wine, they are quite different because they use different production methods to make their wine. For example a white wine produced with arneis grapes (Langhe bianco wine), one was aged in steel, and the other one was aged in amphora. They will taste like two different wines.
